Ahmed, only 18 years old, is a “very uncommon talent,” according to Ben Stokes.

England’s December Test squad to face Pakistan includes 18-year-old Rehan Ahmed, who has been described as a “really unique talent” by captain Ben Stokes.

Should England select him to play in Rawalpindi, Multan, or Karachi, he will become the country’s youngest male Test player.

Leicestershire’s all-arounder Ahmed has only played in three first-class matches, but in those three games he has collected nine wickets and scored 195 runs.

To have someone so young be so obvious with the way he bowls and bats is unique, and we regard him as one of those very rare talents,” Stokes said, according to Sky Sports.

However, Stokes acknowledged that Ahmed still has room for improvement and development on the national squad.

“We’re not naive; we know he’s not the entire package; and I think it’s best if his presence isn’t scrutinized too closely.

The addition of a player of Rehan’s skill “is an opportunity for us to bring him into the team and develop him,” he said. “It’s possible that in two or three years we won’t even recognize him.

I think he’ll be a great addition to the squad, and if we decide we want to give him a Test cap, we can.
