Afghanistan will call the UAE “home” for the next five years.

On Sunday, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced that for the next five years, all of Afghanistan’s “home” matches will be played in the United Arab Emirates.

Over the past few years, Afghanistan’s “home” games have been played in India due to a lack of visiting teams due to security concerns. That impression has grown considerably after the Taliban’s takeover of the country in August 2021.

According to a joint statement released by the two cricket governing bodies, the agreement calls for the Test-playing nation of Afghanistan to play the second-tier Emirati team in a three-match T20 series annually.

Mubashir Usmani, general secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), said in a statement, “…we are glad to support the ACB in ensuring that they have a home for their cricket.”

The Afghanistan Cricket Board’s annual commitment to a set of Twenty20 Internationals versus the UAE team is also greatly appreciated.

Our UAE staff will benefit much from this experience.

When it comes to practical matters, the ECB would help the ACB out with things like visas and office space.

ACB CEO Naseeb Khan expressed optimism that the “fruitful agreement” will contribute to the long-term objectives of both organizations.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has acted as a “home” venue for Pakistani matches in the past, and it also hosted the T20 World Cup last year when it had to be relocated from India due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
