As drone attacks and shelling target territory inside Russia’s border, the Ukraine war changes course.

On Wednesday, a “massive” shelling attack that injured four people in Belgorod and preliminary information suggesting a drone crash and cause a fire at an oil refinery farther south showed how Russia’s war in Ukraine was dramatically spilling over into its own territory.

As the oblast becomes a hotbed of stray violence, its governor reported that eight apartment complexes, four homes, a school and two administrative buildings were destroyed during the shelling in Shebekino, a settlement in the border region of Belgorod.
