Ayaz Amir, a senior journalist, has been released from the Sarah Inam murder case.

On Tuesday, a municipal court in Islamabad released senior journalist Ayaz Amir from the murder case of his daughter-in-law Sarah Inam.On September 23, Shahnawaz, Ayaz Amir’s son, allegedly murdered his wife Sarah at home after a disagreement over a “family matter.”

He was apprehended by police at a farmhouse in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad region as a suspect in his wife’s murder and later confessed, saying he “thought” his wife was having an affair. The couple had only been married for three months.

A trial court on Saturday authorised arrest warrants for Ayaz Amir and his former wife Sameena Shah, who were nominated as suspects by Sarah’s family. Amir was detained, and his ex-wife was later granted pre-arrest bail.

An additional provision of Section 109 (penalty for abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code was added to the police report following the murder at the request of Sarah’s uncles, Colonel (retd) Ikram and Zia-ur-Rahim, who have accused Ayaz Amir and his former wife for their niece’s murder.According to the petitioners, Sameena was living at the farmhouse where Sarah was murdered.
