Egypt is considering a bid to host the Olympics in 2036.

Egypt intends to apply to host the Olympic Games in 2036, said Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi on Saturday during a reception for IOC President Thomas Bach in Cairo.

“President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi has granted his approval for Egypt to bid for the 2036 Olympics,” Sobhi stated.If Egypt’s candidacy is successful, it will be the first African or Arab country to host the Olympics.”If Egypt can host the Olympic Games, it will be historic,” Bach remarked during a joint press conference with Sobhi.

Earlier this month, an Egyptian official claimed that Egypt, Greece, and Saudi Arabia were in talks to co-host the 2030 World Cup.During the Covid-19 pandemic, Egypt hosted the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as well as the 2018 World Handball Championship.
