Former president Pervez Musharraf laid to rest in Karachi

General (ret.) Pervez Musharraf was laid to rest in a military cemetery in the port city of Karachi on Tuesday, more than 48 hours after he died in Dubai.

The funeral prayer for the former chief of army staff was held at the Malir Cantonment Polo Ground just before he was buried.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad, as well as former army chiefs Gen (ret.) Qamar Javed Bajwa and Gen (ret.) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, all went to the funeral prayer.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Mustafa Kamal, Farooq Sattar, Aminul Haque, Faisal Subzwari, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Amir Muqam, and other well-known people were also at the funeral prayer for the ex-president.

The former military ruler’s body was brought to Karachi on Monday night by a special plane from the UAE. The flight had been delayed several times.

Before his body was taken to Sindh’s capital city, Sonapur, Dubai, was used to wash and wrap it as part of a ritual called Ghusl.

Along with the dead man’s body, the ex-army chief’s wife and their children were flown in from the Gulf state.

When it got to the airport, the plane was parked near the old terminal. The body and the angry family were then taken from the old terminal to where they needed to go.

The family of the person who died went to Pakistan’s consulate in Dubai on Sunday to ask for permission to move the body.

It’s important to note that the former president’s mother was laid to rest in Dubai, while his father was buried in Karachi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif, and other politicians had asked the ex-president, who hasn’t been back to the country since 2016, to forgive them.
