Before the auction at Alexander Historical Auctions in Maryland, Jewish leaders had denounced it. Later, 34 leaders joined forces to sign an open letter labelling the sale as “abhorrent.
” Six million Jews were killed in a systematic manner by Adolf Hitler, the leader of Nazi Germany. The watch had to have been given to Hitler when he was appointed the nation’s Chancellor in 1933, according to the product catalogue.
The clothing of Hitler’s wife was one of the other objects up for auction.Chairman of the European Jewish Association Rabbi Menachem Margolin said that the items helped those who idealise the Nazi party and what it stood for.
