Imran Khan receives pre-arrest bail from ATC in terrorism case

Shortly after appearing before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Thursday, PTI Chairman Imran Khan won a pre-arrest bail request in the terror case brought against him for threatening Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry during a public rally.

Khan physically appeared at the ATC where Raja Jawwad Abbas will hear his argument.

In response to allegations of mistreatment while in detention, the PTI chairman held a protest in the nation’s capital on August 20 to show support for his chief of staff Shahbaz Gill. He warned the extra sessions judge that she should be prepared for repercussions for placing Gill on physical remand at the police’s request.

At the Margalla police station, a FIR was filed against him under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act for threatening the judge and other top Islamabad Police officials during the gathering.

Imran Khan obtained transit bail from the Islamabad High Court till August 25 a day after a case was filed against him, with instructions to approach the proper body for pre-arrest bail.

Strict security measures have been put in place around the Federal Judicial Complex, which houses the ATC in Islamabad, for today’s hearing. 400 police officers and FC members have been deployed as part of the security plans to help the police.Barbed wire has been used to block all entrances to the courthouse, and only those who are necessary are allowed near the area. Additionally, there is an armoured vehicle outside the court.
