Murtaza Wahab resigns as administrator of Karachi.

Murtaza Wahab, the administrator of Karachi, resigned on Monday after a high court barred the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) from collecting taxes through the city’s power utility.

The resignation announcement followed a Sindh High Court order (SHC) that temporarily banned the KMC from collecting municipal taxes through power bills.

On August 6, 2021, Barrister Murtaza Wahab was named administrator of the KMC.Wahab bemoaned the court judgement at a press conference, saying, “It would have been easier for me to approach the prime minister and the chief minister for funding, but I did not, because I believe the path of the law is the only solution.”

“There is a solution for everything in the Constitution and the law of the land.”He stated that the metropolitan corporation was authorised to levy taxes under the applicable statute.

“When the city roads are flooded, no one knocks on Waseem Akhtar’s or Naeem-ur-house, Rehman’s and locals question me, the government, and the KMC for answers,” Wahab continued. He stated that the metropolitan corporation was authorised to levy taxes under the applicable statute.

“When the city roads are flooded, no one comes to Waseem Akhtar’s or Naeem-ur-door.” Rehman’s “People are questioning me, the government, and the KMC,” Wahab continued. He said that documents proved that the recovery rate during Waseem Akhtar’s tenure was merely 20%. “So, where did the money go?”

In an apparent reference to the former mayor of the seaside city’s notorious corruption, Wahab stated that Waseem Akhtar had engaged a private contractor to collect taxes. “They once collected Rs200 million and were only handed Rs40 million,” he claimed.

The administrator also claimed to have clean hands and claimed to have fought the dirt in the system at the expense of his due comfort.”I was out in the field throughout the disasters directly monitoring the repairs, rescue, and relief activities.” During the COVID-19 outbreak, I was working while wearing a mask. I’ve always strived to serve individuals without prejudice.”

Wahab said that his error was falling in love with the KMC rather than his wallet.”There are factors at work here that prevent us from doing our jobs efficiently.” Working in this city is difficult since everything is rejected.”

The outgoing administrator of the country’s financial centre stated that he had diabetes and that work-related stress was exacerbating it, negatively impacting his health.Following the news conference, he stated that he would tender his resignation to Chief Minister Sindh.
