Norwegian mountaineer is on the verge of being the fastest to conquer all 14 summits.
Norwegian mountaineer Kristin Harila climbed 8,080m Gasherbrum-1 on Thursday, bringing her record of being the fastest to complete all 14 peaks above 8,000m in the world one step closer.
Harila, along with Dawa and Pasdawa Sherpas, reached the summit of Gasherbrum-1 on Thursday morning around 7:15 a.m. Pakistan time, according to her summit organisers.
“They were the first three to reach G-1’s summit in the 2022 season,” 8K summits claimed in a statement.
The 36-year-old is attempting to break the record for the quickest ascent of all 14 summits over 8,000 metres in the globe, which is now held by Nepal’s Nirpal Purja, who did the feat in six months and six days.
Harlia has summited 11 8000m summits in less than four months since beginning her record-breaking quest in April 2022, and is now left with Manaslu, Cho-Oyu, and Shisha Pangma.
“She has climbed 11 of the world’s highest mountains in 105 days.” “There are only three summits remaining in her effort to summit all 14 peaks over 8,000 metres in one season,” the team said in a statement.
She will now return to Norway before concluding her journey in Nepal and Tibet.
