Pakistan has unveiled its first electric vehicle, the NUR-E 75.

On Independence Day, Pakistan’s first electric automobile prototype, the NUR-E 75, was unveiled (August 14, 2022).

The battery capacity of the car will be 35kWh. After charging, the car will have enough power to travel 210 kilometres.

According to Dr. Khurshid Qureshi, founder and chairperson of the Distinguished Innovation, Collaboration, and Entrepreneurship (DICE) Foundation, which designed and developed the prototype, the car will save a significant amount of fuel, aid in the fight against climate change, and help to sustain economic prosperity.
DICE Foundation is a non-profit organisation established in the United States that is administered by expatriate Pakistanis from the United States, the European Union, and other parts of the world, with assistance from local academia and industry.

Dr. Qureshi, a leading expert in developing autonomous vehicles, stated that the car’s production is divided into three stages: the first is industrial design, production, and launch; the second is production expansion to sedan and SUV, small commercial trucks, and EV platform export; and the third is export.

Production began in 2019, he said, adding that the fully working prototype, EV NUR-E 75, is ready for testing and regulatory approval, and that work on the design of a rolling platform to be utilised for other vehicle segments is currently underway.

He explained that the five-seater hatchback has a peak power of 80kW or 108hp and a battery capacity of 35kWh, which allows it to travel 210km with the air conditioner switched off.

He stated that the totally electric car has a top speed of 120km/h, 16-inch tyres, a ground clearance of 190mm, and a charge capacity of 220V in eight hours, with quick charging also possible.

He stated that the car, donated as a gift to Pakistan on its diamond jubilee, will play a tremendous role in the context of the environment and climate change, and would assist us in transitioning away from non-renewable fuel usage.

“I can’t emphasise enough the importance of this breakthrough and how it will be a game changer for both Pakistan’s economy and the well-being of ordinary individuals once it hits the market in the fourth quarter of 2024.”

For the past 15 years, the DICE Foundation has been working in Pakistan to promote innovation, improve competence, and turn brain drain into brain gain. The organisation, which was founded in 2007, focuses on automotive, health, agriculture, energy, creative art, and textile.

DICE is a strategic project of the DICE Foundation in the United States focused at developing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country at all levels. It is an umbrella programme, and several significant platforms are currently operating under it.

The major goal of each of these platforms is to kickstart the cycle of innovation in the country that is required for its long-term development, advancement, and economic prosperity.
