Robb Stark star thinks back on the famous “Game of Thrones” red wedding scene

Richard Madden, who plays Jon Snow on Game of Thrones, talked about the popular Red Wedding nearly 10 years after it first aired.

The Rains of Castamere, season 3, episode 9, had a scene that was thought to be one of the saddest in television history. Robb Stark, played by Richard Madden, his mother Catelyn Stark, his pregnant wife Talisa Stark, and the whole Stark congregation at the wedding were brutally killed.

Walder Frey planned and carried out the killing as punishment for Robb breaking the agreement between House Stark and House Frey to get married.

In a recent interview on Entertainment Tonight to promote his new Amazon Prime show Citadel, which he stars in with Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the actor Nick Jonas.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the famous “red wedding” scene, so it came up, and Madden talked about his time on the HBO show.

“I still have happy thoughts about that whole thing. I don’t remember that particular scene, but I do remember the whole thing. It’s nice to be back in regular series drama, where you have so much time to tell a story and then get big payoffs like [the Red Wedding]. After three seasons, we got to see this terrible death happen to a character you care about.”

“I think that’s also our goal with Citadel,” he said. “We want to make a big world and get to know these people well.”
