Shahbaz Gill’s remand extension in the sedition case will be decided by an Islamabad court today.

Shahbaz Gill, a top PTI politician, must appear before an Islamabad district and sessions court at noon today for the hearing of a sedition charge brought against him (Monday). He hasn’t yet, though, been brought before the judge.

Gill was arrested on August 9 near Banigala Chowk on suspicion of stirring up public unrest against the Pakistan Army’s ranks and files by making some comments on a TV programme. The PTI claims that its leader was “tortured” while incarcerated and was not physically fit to be taken into remand, but the police insist on taking him into jail so they may conduct additional research.

Gill was ordered to remain at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) until today after the court determined that his condition was “not okay.”

When the hearing resumes today, the court will examine Gill’s medical records and determine whether or not to place Gill on physical remand in response to the police’s plea.

Monday morning, an armoured truck pulled up at PIMS to transport Gill from the hospital to court.

In Gill’s physical remand, the police had asked for an eight-day extension at the case’s previous hearing on Friday.
