The director of “Thor” helped the director of “Guardians” with “Vol. 3.”

James Gunn, who made Guardians of the Galaxy, gave Taika Waititi a lot of credit for getting rid of Thor from the team. Gunn didn’t know that the team would join up with the Greek god at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the director said, “They chose to have that ending in editing, and I didn’t think it was going to be in there.”

The director of Suicide Squad said that Thor isn’t in the third part of the story because he wants to finish the Guardians trio after Endgame.

“I didn’t have much of a say in what was in ‘Endgame,’ and when it came out, I was like, ‘What the **** am I going to do?'” Gunn added.

The director also said he was glad Waititi split the powerful hero storyline from the misfit heroes in Thor 4.

“That’s when Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, told me Taika was going to do ‘Thor,’ and the Guardians would be in it,” Gunn said.

“I said, ‘Thank God!’… Thor was never going to be in this movie, to be honest. Taika took a bullet for me. I wasn’t going to let him in because of that. I was about to begin, but there’s no Thor.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will open in theaters on Friday, May 5.
