Today, PM Shehbaz Sharif will preside over an NSC meeting on audio leaks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will preside over a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) this afternoon (Wednesday), as multiple audio leaks involving high government officials surface.

According to sources close to the situation, Minister of Defence Khawaja Asif, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and Federal Minister of Finance would all attend the NSC’s 39th meeting. In addition, tri-services leaders and heads of critical agencies will be in attendance.

According to sources, the heads of the agencies will brief the gathering on the topic of hidden audio recordings. Other topics to be covered at the conference include a review of the security of the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as Pakistan’s economic and financial condition.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the “audio leaks” had harmed the country’s position in the world community because no one felt free to communicate with the prime minister due to privacy concerns.

He made the remarks during a press conference at the Prime Minister’s House in Ottawa. The younger Sharif stated that the “audio leaks” controversy was significant and that he was organising a high-level committee to investigate it.

“Who is going to pay the Pakistani prime minister a visit from abroad now?” the PM wondered. “This scandal has jeopardised the reputation of a nation of 220 million people.”
