With a record lift of 405kg, weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt won gold for Pakistan in the Commonwealth Games 2022. This is Pakistan’s first gold medal in any category in the ongoing games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Nooh Dastagir Butt set a new Commonwealth Games record in the 109+kg category by lifting 173kg in snatch. Butt also set a new record in clean and jerk by lifting 232kg. He hoisted 405kg in total, another CWG record.

New Zealand’s David Andrew took silver with a lift of 394kg, while India’s Singh Gurdeep took bronze with a lift of 390kg total.

Butt previously won a bronze medal in the 105+kg category at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Talha Talib also won bronze in the 62kg category at the same games.

Shujauddin Malik earned Pakistan’s only gold medal in the weightlifting event at the CWG in 2006.
