ChatGPT owner launches ‘imperfect’ tool to detect AI-generated text
Using data from search engines, Business Insider made a map of the 20 most popular jobs in the world. Some of the jobs on the list were surprising.
Information from all over Remitly, a company that helps people send money to each other, looked at Google searches for “how to be…” and the job title between October 2021 and October 2022. The results were ranked and put into groups based on the top dream job in each country.
Top on the list of the 20 most wanted jobs in the world were pilot, writer, dancer, YouTuber, and business owner. The most people search for “how to be a pilot” in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. In 2021, the median pay for commercial pilots in the US was just under $100,000, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The research shows that most Chinese people want to be nutritionists, while most Lebanese people want to learn how to be comedians.
Writing is the top dream job in Southeast Asia, New Zealand, and South Africa, where it has been searched for more than 800,000 times on Google. But experts at Remitly warned that there are risks to a career as a writer.
The report says, “There are big rewards if you get to the top, but it’s also likely to be a hard job for many, full of rejection, self-doubt, and worries about money.”
But the data shows that being a writer is still the best job in 75 different countries. Writing professionally can lead to jobs as a journalist, an author, or a scriptwriter. This makes it one of the more varied jobs on the list.
Shana Lebowitz of Insider says that despite Remitly’s research, some professionals have said that the term “dream job” should be dropped. As a result, more people are putting more value on their personal identities than on their jobs.
A recruiter wrote in a LinkedIn post, “We all need to work to survive, but that doesn’t mean we should dream about it.”
Young professionals still want to work in fields that matter and make a difference while also making enough money to support themselves.
“It’s soul-crushing to spend most of your waking hours trying to get the money you need to take care of your family,” a public-relations professional wrote in the report. “But it’s a little less soul-crushing when you’re doing something you’re passionate about.”
