Dave Bautista rules out Bane role amid new DC universe birth

Dave Bautista said no to playing Batman’s bad guy Bane in the new DC universe, even though he had said before that he wanted to do so.

The actor told Insider, “I’ve talked to James about that, but I think the direction he’s leaning in is the right one. He’s starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher, which is what I think you need to do.”

“I think that if you want to bring back the DC Universe, you should start from scratch, and you should start with younger actors,” the 54-year-old said. “You need to start making plans for the next 15 years, and I don’t think you can do that with me. I know what you mean. I also have to say that I appreciate that because I don’t want to play a character that I can’t do justice to.

At this point in my career, I don’t think I can give Bane his due. I don’t think I’d be able to handle the physical part, and I don’t think I’d be able to plan for movies for long enough. So, I’m not sure that I would be that guy.”

Back in 2021, the star of “Guardians of the Galaxy” said that he would like to play Batman’s big enemy.

“I haven’t kept this a secret, and I also said, “I want to play Bane so badly that I went to Warner Bros., made an appointment with them and DC, walked in the door, and said, ‘I want to play Bane.'” I’m not kidding. They thought, “Wow, and we’re not even casting Bane.” “I don’t care, I’m playing him,” I said.”
