First thoughts on the live version of “The Little Mermaid” are out.

The live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” was shown for the first time on May 8, and the first reviews of the movie are now out. Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, Awkwafina, and others are in the movie.

Yahoo! Entertainment says that most people like it, with some saying that it is “close to being the best live-action Disney movie” and “an absolute joy to watch.”

Most of the people who saw it loved how Bailey played the mermaid with red hair. Gillian Blum, a movie reviewer for The Direct, said that “Halle Bailey IS Ariel.”

Not everyone likes it, though. Critic Courtney Howard called it “charming but very spotty,” but she also praised the group for how hard they worked at their roles.

Insider’s Kirsten Acuna said it was “a mostly paint-by-numbers remake that isn’t as good as the animated masterpiece.”

The general public will be able to see the movie on May 26.

Many people were upset when the black actor Hailey Bailey was cast as Arial, who is white and has red hair in the original animated movie.
