In Gilgit-Baltistan’s Astore, an avalanche killed 10 people.

On Saturday, an avalanche on Shunter Top in the Astore district of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) killed at least 10 people and hurt another 10.

Reports say that in the area, a control room has been set up to help with rescue operations and get people out from under the rubble. Officials said that the people who were hurt were nomadic people.

Chief Minister G-B Khalid Khurshid was saddened by the loss of life and told the authorities, “Give all the help you can to the people who have been hurt.”

At least four people died in an avalanche in January in the Asheri Darra area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province’s rocky Upper Dir district.

People who lived in the area said that the slide killed four people, including a man and his son who were cutting wood from a downed tree.

“They were all dead from the cold because they were buried in the snow,” a local said.

“The locals found out in the morning that four people who went to the mountain last night were missing, so they joined Rescue 1122 and the police in looking for them,” he said.
