PDM decides anti-inflation march, fails to develop consensus on resignations

Fazl says protest march will take place on Pakistan Day (March 23) against govt’s failed policies

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazl Rehman on Monday announced that the alliance of several opposition parties decided to hold the anti-inflation march in Islamabad on March 23 (Pakistan Day), next year.

He said they also decided to hold meeting of PDM on provincial level before holding the anti-inflation March towards the Federal Capital. The alliance did not reach any consensus over the date of resignations from the assemblies, however it was decided during the meeting that resignation is an option which is supposed to be utilised at a right moment.

The PDM meeting was chaired by its chief Maulana Fazl Rehman and attended by all the leaders of opposition parties including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mian Shehbaz Sharif through video-link.

While talking to reporters after the meeting, PDM Chief Maulana Fazl Rehman announced that, “After a long deliberation and consensus of the opposition alliance, the anti-inflation march in Islamabad will be held on March 23, next year.” Fazl said that the opposition alliance selected the Pakistan Day to protest against the government’s wrong and failed policies. He said that the PDM’s march will be a historical one and people from all walks of life will be invited to take part in the march against the incumbent government, inflation, poverty and unemployment.

While speaking to media Maulana Fazl said that Imran Khan’s government was the product of rigging, saying that due to his failed policies the country is facing crisis on every fronts.

About the meetings of PDM leadership on provincial level, Maulana Fazl said that meeting will be held across the country to devise strategy for the anti inflation and anti government long march.

He said that the meeting of PDM in Punjab will be chaired by Nawaz Sharif, the meeting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be chaired by Maulana Fazl Rehman himself, the meeting in Baluchistan will be held by Pukhtun Khwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai and the meeting in Sindh will be chaired by Awais Noorani.

Maulana also announced to hold a  seminar with lawyers’ community and with the representatives of the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Pakistan Bar Council for the anti inflation protests.

The PDM chief while concluding the speech said that a meeting of the Steering Committee is summoned today (Tuesday) to make planning for the decisions taken by PDM leadership.

The opposition alliance also strongly condemned the lynching of Sri Lankan manager in Sialkot. Commenting on the incident Maulana Fazl Rehman said that no citizen had the right to take the law into own hands.
