Peshawar: Blast at Jama Masjid in Kasa Khwani during Friday prayers
An explosion took place in Peshawar’s Kocha Risaldar on Friday, injuring at least 20 people, according to Rescue 1122 officials.
Witnesses said the incident took place close to a mosque and that gunfire could be heard prior to the explosion. Officials have yet to confirm the nature of the explosion.
Police teams have reached the site of the explosion. The area has a number of markets and is usually packed around the time of Friday prayers, said locals.
The injured have been moved to the Lady Reading Hospital, said the officials, adding currently 15 ambulances were on the site. Hospital spokesperson Mohammad Asim confirmed more than 20 injured people have been brought to the hospital, most of whom he said are in critical condition.
He said the number of injured people is expected to rise.
The hospital has been put on red alert and more medical personnel have been called to LRH, the spokesperson added.
