YouTuber Jameel Farooqui’s two-day physical remand has been approved by an Islamabad court.
YouTuber and news anchor Jameel Farooqui was taken into custody in Karachi the day before, and a district and sessions judge on Tuesday granted the Islamabad police a two-day remand.
The Islamabad police claim that Farooqui was detained for making untrue accusations against the law enforcement organisation (LEA) about the alleged torture of top PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.
After a Karachi court granted Islamabad police a three-day transit remand of the anchorperson, the YouTuber was brought to the federal capital.
The police requested remand during today’s session, and the magistrate granted the LEA’s request after hearing the arguments.
The capital city police claimed in a statement released on Monday that Farooqui had claimed in his vlog that Gill had been sexually and physically attacked by police.
The statement further stated that the police had threatened to take legal action against anyone who made inflammatory, misleading, and fraudulent claims.
The PTI has frequently asserted that Gill, who is being held by the police, has been insulted, tormented, and sexually abused. However, the police have refuted all of these claims and have also filed a report with the high court.
A video of Farooqui crying and alleging that he was “stripped and tortured” by the police on the “orders of the home ministry as he was expressing the truth” went viral on social media while he was being transported from Karachi to Islamabad. The case against the social media activist has been registered at Islamabad’s Ramna Police Station.
