Aamir Khan to compensate distributors of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ after losses?
According to India Today, actor Aamir Khan is in talks with the distributors of Laal Singh Chaddha about paying compensation for the film’s failure.
The film was expected to generate around INR 180 crore, however it failed to earn more than INR50 crore in its first week of release.
“Distributors have been hammered hard since Laal Singh Chaddha failed to perform at the box office in India,” the publication said, citing sources.
“Aamir is in contact with concerned parties to reimburse them for the loss,” the insider stated. The film’s business was harmed throughout the country for a variety of reasons, including the boycott trend.”
So far, there is no precise information on the amount of compensation to be paid to distributors.
Meanwhile, Viacom CEO Ajit Andhare dismissed all rumours, claiming, “There are no external distributors, everything is distributed by V18Studios, and no money is lost in the first place.””
“The film is still playing in theatres, both in India and around the world. This is purely speculative.”
According to one of the industry’s gurus, Ramesh Bala, the film may be a bomb in theatres but do well on OTT platforms. However, Khan is not keen on releasing Laal Singh Chaddha on OTT services at the moment.Previously, Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan had to compensate distributors for the failures of Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal. Both were said to have paid INR25 crores for the loss of the movie.
