Brazil’s cyclone takes 13 lives.

Authorities reported on Sunday that a hurricane that tore across southern Brazil has killed at least 13 people and displaced others from their homes. The state of Rio Grande do Sul suffered damage on Thursday and Friday from torrential rain and strong winds, especially in Porto Alegre, the state’s capital. This is the latest in a spate of weather-related catastrophes to strike South America’s largest nation.

Thirteen people have died as a result of the storm, according to the state civil defense service, after two more bodies were found in the hardest-hit coastal town of Caraa.
