Dog sets room on fire after accidentally switching on hair dryer

In a house in the UK, a dog activated the hair dryer by accident.

Hockley contacted Essex Fire Service on Saturday night (December 24) after receiving reports of smoke coming from a home.

According to the Essex Fire Service, the dog’s owner, a lady, returned home late at night to find smoke filling the house and her pet waiting for her at the front door.

Firefighters speculate that the woman had a hair dryer connected into the top of the bed, and that when the dog jumped up on it, it set off the alarm. Over time, it spread to the mattress and sheets.

According to the Essex Fire Services’ Twitter account, this “freak accident” occurred when a dog got on a bed, activated a hair dryer, and set fire to the mattress.

After discovering the blaze in the bedroom, firefighters worked immediately to extinguish it.

Manager Gary Shinn issued a statement imploring people in the United Kingdom to turn off their electronics when they were done using them.

When you’re done using your hair dryer or straightener, he asked that you unplug it.

The homeowner “wouldn’t have thought for one moment her dog would switch on the hairdryer,” Shinn said.

It was reported a few months ago that a dog in Missouri, US, started a fire by turning on the stove. Both dogs were rescued, but photographs of the damaged inside of the home were shared on social media.
