There has been a corruption reference filed against Imran Khan.
A trial court in Islamabad has issued a notice to PTI Chairman Imran Khan for tomorrow in the trial opened against him in the Toshakhana reference, per an order from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

A copy of the reference instituting criminal proceedings against Khan was received by the court, prompting the issuance of the aforementioned notice.

Extra Meetings Tomorrow (Tuesday), Judge Zafar Iqbal will hear the corruption reference filed against Khan.

Khan faces the potential of three years in prison and a fine for this incident.

The ECP reached a unanimous verdict in the Toshakana reference last month, disqualifying the former prime minister and determining that the PTI chief was no longer a member of the National Assembly.

According to the ECP, the PTI chief was involved in corrupt practices and had submitted a false affidavit (Article 63(1)).

According to the ECP’s order, “as a sequel to our abovementioned findings, facts available on record and keeping in view the argument of learned counsel for parties herein, we are of the considered opinion that the Respondent has become disqualified under Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution read with Section 137,167 and 173 of the Elections Act,2017,” and so his seat in the National Assembly of Pakistan has been declared vacant.

The ECP found that Khan “committed the offence of corrupt practices defined under Sections 167 and 173 of the Elections Act,2017” due to his “false statements and incorrect declarations.”

It directed legal proceedings and follow-up action in accordance with Section 190(2) of the Elections Act, 2017 and noted that the offense was punishable under Section 174 of the Elections Act, 2017.
