The director of “Black Panther” recalls his final conversation with star Chadwick Boseman.

Ryan Coogler, director of Black Panther, reflected on his final conversation with the late actor Chadwick Boseman.

Director Ryan Coogler reflected on his final conversation with the late actor, saying, “My last conversation with him was calling to ask if he wanted to read [the script] before I got notes from the studio.” This was mentioned in the Wakanda Forever podcast.

This was the last time we had any kind of conversation. He went “maybe a couple of weeks after I finished” the script for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” referring to the film’s sequel.

According to Coogler, the Emmy winner sounded “tired” on the phone.

The script for the film’s sequel was completed before the actor’s death, but he politely declined Coogler’s offer to read it, explaining over the phone that “he didn’t want to get in the way of what direction the [Marvel] studio might have.”

When pressed, Coogler admitted, “I found out later that he was too tired to read anything.”

The iconic actor Chadwick Boseman, age 43 at the time of his death in August 2020 from colon cancer, fought the disease for four years.
