The pairing of Ronaldo and Messi has fans going wild.
The “best picture of 2022” was posted on the internet by football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and it caused a minor internet outage.
On the eve of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the two shared a previously unseen photo on their social media in promotion of a collaboration with a high-end fashion label.
The on-field adversaries sat across from one another for a portrait. Both football players are depicted here playing a game of chess.
In light of their unparalleled achievements in the game, Ronaldo and Messi are universally hailed as the best players of all time.
With 1604 goals and 581 assists between them, the Portuguese and Argentine stars have won a combined 12 Ballon d’Or awards.
These two footballing legends will be in Qatar for the start of the FIFA World Cup 2022, where they will both be competing for the title of world champion.
Messi has stated that this will “very likely” be his last World Cup, so he and Argentina will be motivated to improve upon their 2014 final loss to Germany in extra time.
He has yet to follow in the footsteps of football greats like Pele and Diego Maradona by winning the World Cup. When he was the catalyst for Argentina’s triumph at the Copa America last year, he did achieve his lifelong goal of winning a major international tournament.
Ronaldo, Messi’s long-time rival for the title of best player in the world, will almost certainly be making his final World Cup appearance as well. The all-time leading scorer in international football recently scored his 700th goal for his club.
Portugal’s best performance with Ronaldo on the international stage is still a semi-final exit in 2006, despite their emotional title win at Euro 2016. He’ll be hoping to break Pele’s, Miroslav Klose’s, and Uwe Seeler’s record of four consecutive World Cups with a goal.
After struggling early in the season and accusing Manchester United of “betraying” him, Cristiano Ronaldo will have to put behind him a rocky start to the season with the club.
