The wedding of Naomi Biden, the granddaughter of Joe and Jill Biden, took place in the White House

On Saturday, the White House played host to the wedding of Naomi Biden, granddaughter of US President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden.

The bride, age 28, is a lawyer, and she and her husband, Peter Neal, 25, a recent law school graduate from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, have been residing in the White House. For the time being, he’s focusing on National Security work at the Georgetown University Law Center. In 2018, they finally connected.

With no reporters present, the ceremony took place on the South Lawn of the White House.

There were maybe 250 people there.

The president and first lady said in a joint statement, “It has been a joy to see Naomi grow, learn who she is, and carve out such a great life for herself.”

We are really happy that she has chosen Peter as her spouse and it is a great honor for us to have him join our family. We hope that their years together are filled with joy and that their love grows stronger with each passing day.

Family and friends were invited to the White House State Dining Room for a luncheon after the ceremony. There was going to be a reception that night with dessert and dancing.

It is the first part of a festive weekend for Biden, who will mark his 80th birthday on Sunday surrounded by family.

At most of the 18 marriages held in the White House since former President John Adams moved in there in 1800, guests have included members of the president and first lady’s immediate families.

The sister of First Lady Dolley Madison, Lucy Payne Washington, married Associate Justice Thomas Todd of the Supreme Court in 1812, starting the custom.

Grover Cleveland has been the only president to marry in the White House. He married Frances Folsom in the Blue Room that year (1886).

Naomi Biden is President Obama’s daughter, born to Hunter Biden and his first wife, Kathleen Buhle.

Elizabeth Alexander, Jill Biden’s communications director, said that the Biden family will be footing the bill for any wedding-related events held at the White House, “consistent with other private events hosted by the first family and following the traditions of previous White House wedding festivities in prior administrations.”

In contrast to such events in the past, this one did not allow reporters to attend.

We are honoring Naomi and Peter’s request to keep their wedding private from the press. Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, told reporters on Friday that the pair had made the decision.
