Tweeps respond to Noor Jehan’s death by calling it “criminal negligence.”

The sad and “untimely” death of Noor Jehan, a 17-year-old African elephant who was sick at the Karachi Zoo, has taken the internet by storm. Heartbroken internet users blame “criminal negligence” on the zoo’s staff for the elephant’s death.

Noor Jehan died today. A week ago, she fell over in her zoo cage and fell into a pond. She was being treated, but today was her last day.

“The elephant’s sickness had been going on since yesterday. “Everything was done to save her,” Karachi Administrator Saif Ur Rehman said in a statement about the sick animal, which had been sick for a few days.

Director of the Karachi Zoo Kanwar Ayub told reporters that the elephant died at 11:15 a.m. today. He said that the elephant’s health had been getting worse since November of last year.

The head of the zoo also said that a team from Four Paws was on its way to Pakistan, where they would look at the 17-year-old’s body after he died.

“After the autopsy, we will decide where she will be buried,” he said.

Animal rights activists in Pakistan and around the world posted about Noor Jehan’s sad situation on social media, which led to calls for the zoo to be closed.

Sohaib, a social media user, wrote about her death: “Every living thing must die someday, but it’s sad that criminal negligence and a lack of facilities killed her.”

In a series of tweets, Four Paws said, “Noor Jehan’s sad story is a reminder of the pain that wild animals in captivity go through in Pakistan and all over the world. We hope that the government in Pakistan will learn from this and do better for wild animals in captivity in the future.”

Anoushey Ashraf, a Pakistani model-turned-actor, wrote on her Instagram account about how important it is to save the hundreds of other animals at the zoo.
