Vijay Varma, Alia Bhatt’s ‘Darlings’ co-star, was frightened of injuring her on set.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Vijay Varma admitted that he was concerned about accidentally injuring Alia Bhatt while filming physical abuse scenes for the recently released film Darlings.
Darlings, Alia Bhatt’s first feature film, explores the problem of domestic violence in a marriage relationship and its ramifications. While some praise Alia and Vijay for portraying such multifaceted personalities, others believe the film should have included a disclaimer warning since some of the scenes are too explicit.
When asked about the abuse sequences, the Gully Boy actor said, “I recall wanting to make sure the other actor was not injured or felt uncomfortable since it was a very violent encounter. I told you I’d come over and grasp your shoulder, so brace yourself.
That sort of thing was going on. There aren’t many amusing moments between the husband and wife, but the drama beats are amazing, and we were feeding off each other quite well. But, certainly, we talked scene choreography so that our movements and moods reflected in the work we were performing.
He went on to say, “It’s a little darker.” He is not in a good place in his life, not just in the equation with his wife. He is insecure and suffers from an inferiority complex. As a protective mechanism, he adjusts for this. The wife is the one thing he believes is working in his life, and he is determined to keep it that way.”
Darlings was the most watched film on Netflix in Pakistan during the weekend, despite earning mixed reviews from critics.
