Amazon boosts Prime prices in five European nations

Customers of Amazon Prime in five European nations were informed that the platform’s expedited delivery service will now cost them by a factor of ten more. Amazon claimed that the increases were brought on by greater operating costs as a result of rising fuel prices.

Customers in France will have to pay a 43 percent higher price for an annual membership starting in mid-September. Italians will see their costs rise by 38.6%, Spaniards by 30.3%, and Britons and Germans by 20%. With the price increases, Prime now costs 49.90 euros in Italy and Spain and includes access to Prime Video in addition to quick delivery.

In France, Germany, and Britain, it will cost 89.90 euros and 95 pounds, respectively, or about 112 euros. As a result, the service is less expensive than in the US, where it increased by 17% in February to $139 per year (137 euros). Even though the price increases are significantly larger than inflation, analysts think that Amazon actually pays far more for the service than it does for the people it draws in and retains.

Last year, the market intelligence company Foxintelligence calculated that European Prime members made on average twice as many purchases on Amazon than non-members. On Twitter, a few upset users said they would stop using the service. However, French Amazon staff members showed no signs of distress. Because more and more services are offered through Prime and consumers may still realise very significant savings, what we saw in the United States was that there wasn’t a rise of opt-outs.
