Ban will remain imposed on pillion riding in Sindh
To guarantee Muharram security, the Sindh government on Friday banned pillion riding in the province from August 5–10. The Sindh IGP requested the imposition of the complete ban on pillion riding from Muharram 6–12 due to security concerns and a perceived threat, according to a Home Department notification released today.
This was done in order to preserve law and order throughout the province and prevent any untoward incidents.With effect from the sixth of Muharram-ul-Haram to the twelfth of Muharram, the Government of Sindh imposes a complete ban on riding a motorcycle or scooter as a passenger, in accordance with the authority granted by Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
However, the ban does not apply to women, children under the age of 12, senior citizens, people with disabilities, people who are disabled and those who work for essential services. During Muharram, security has been stepped up nationwide, and the Interior Ministry has set up a central control room.
