Sidra Amin confident ahead of Australia ODIs

Pakistan’s No. 1 batter Sidra Amin expressed optimism about her team’s chances in the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia. The series kicks off with an ODI in Brisbane on January 16.

The ICC Women’s Championship 2022–25 features all three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and all three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) that Pakistan will play in Australia.

Pakistan is coming into this ODI series on a high after winning five of their six matches in the ICC Women’s Championship. The team won 2-1 in Karachi against Sri Lanka in June of last year and 3-0 in Lahore against Ireland in November.

At the halfway point of the ICC Women’s Championship, Amin has amassed an impressive 495 runs, putting her at the top of the batting charts.

“I am here in Australia for the first time, the conditions here are different to Pakistan as the ball rises a bit,” Amin told PCB Digital.

Prior to their trip to Australia, the team “had our preparation camps in Lahore and Karachi where we played some practise games,” she said.

She noted the significance of getting off to a strong start as the team’s opener.

In one-day international cricket, the opener has the difficult task of facing two new balls, during which time he or she must both defend against the new ball and set the tone for the innings by scoring runs quickly. She continued, “Muneeba [Ali] and I will try to get the inning off to a good start so that the batters who come after us can carry the momentum.”

I know that when I do well, it will help the team as a whole, so I will strive to score runs. To help the team succeed, she said, “the message from coach and captain is very simple: go out and play positive cricket, score runs for the team.”

The Lahore native batsman spoke frankly about the value of playing a top team like Australia.

Everyone knows Australia has a strong team, so facing them in a match is a good sign. We’ll gain a tonne of insight from it,” she promised.
