Pakistani athletes excel in badminton singles at the Commonwealth Games.
Pakistani badminton players have so far performed well in their individual matches at the Commonwealth Games 2022, which began on Wednesday. Ghazala Siddique defeated Vicky Chater of Falkland Island in two straight sets in the round of 64 match in Women’s Singles on Wednesday, 4-21 and 3-21.
Another Pakistani player, Irfan Bhatti, won his Men’s Singles round of 64 match against Chongo Mulenga in two straight sets. Mulenga fought back in the second set, but fell 21-19 to his Pakistani opponent. However, Mahoor Shahzad and Ghazala were upset by Australian opponents Chen Hsuan-Yu Wendy and Somerville Gronya in the Women’s Doubles round of 32, 10-21 and 13-21.
Meanwhile, Mahoor performed admirably in her Women’s Singles round of 64 match against Priyanna Devirani Ramdhani. The Pakistani player defeated the Guyanese by scores of 10-21 and 8-21. Murad Ali of Pakistan dominated his opponent, Ghana’s Dromo Tamakloe, in the Men’s Singles competition, winning the round of 64 by 21-9 and 21-8.
